3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

I hope it's OK to post this photo of grandson getting to know the new chicks. Also wanted to brag a bit. His Mom was running a 24 hour race (9am New Years Eve to 9am New Years Day) and she won women's division with 100.6 miles,

I had two hatch out the 52 or 53 I set.

I give up...

I think I'll just buy some chicks this year. Does anyone hatch and ship chicks? I mean from here? I know the hatcheries do -- I just hate to buy from them.

I'd rather my 100+ dollars go to a small "business". Anyway pm me if you do! Thanks!

Quick shot.. Most of the 23 are in this pic, but hidden under the others. There's a giant yellow chick and a big grey chick (hidden), I think those are my mutts.. And my 'special needs' chick is in the lower right - you can see the purple vet tape on his legs, but not his missing eye.

Buying chicksis fine, most o my chickens are from hatcheries, except my blk copper maran, he's from a shower's stock. I think you sould just candle your eggs(if u didn't chuck em or already candle) and see where you went wrong and then try again with less valuable eggs. Hey, last year I had about sixty eggs, and none of them hatched. I muttereda few curses, took the door off my incubator, and put in two dozen random eggs. Five hatched, 3 roos and 2 hens. I still have the hensand 1 of the roos.

So you must not give up, frustrating as it is. I've blown entire hatches, and accidentally killed chicks with my stupid mistakes. There are lotsa people selling chicks, I got bored yesterday and was going through the 'sell' lists. Realy only marans and silkies tho. But there's also orphingtons.

What's the difference btwn a buff rock and a buff orphington anyways? I don't get it.

Sorry if I'm annoyinganyon with my amateur's questions, I have my hypothesis to most of wht I ask(except on chicken breeds) I just like varifying everything I know, I don't wannagiveothers the wrong info. Done it b4. Don't wanna do it again.

I tried to hatch all summer and only got three, two perfect and one with a bum leg, and that's out of around 100 eggs. Since the three that hatched did it 4 days late, I figured out that my thermometer was running 6 degrees too cold.....I bought new thermometers and wallah, i have chicks.

Thanks Blarneyeggs, he's 4 and a bit petite for his age, but mostly I think it's a matter of perspective, the chick is little.
