3rd Annual NYD Hatch "Designer" Egg Swap Thread

It is disappointing when shipped eggs don't hatch. I got 30 eggs from an Ebay ad 15 days ago and the box was partially crushed, smelled like rotten egg, and had a wet spot on one corner. Five broken eggs and the rest with broken air sacs. I put them in the 'bator anyway and a few actually started to develop, but I cannot see an air sac?? Don't know if one can hatch w/o an air sac. A few have blood rings, and the rest with nothing, as I expected. It's looking like I'm not going to get any to hatch out of this scrambled mess. USPS gets a big fat F in this case.

I tried to figure out who it is I'm sending to, too. I love the mystery. Yesterday one of my own eggs hatched! This was a first time for my own chicken's eggs, and I only incubated one.

It is a BR hen x Appenzellar Spitzhauben roo chick:

Thanks all. Just found out from Tad on here that my mix of AS roo and BR hen is a sex link... so he's a little cockerel. I'll keep him to see what he looks like all feathered out, I just need a place to put him. But, some lucky gal/guy is going to get some eggs that might turn into chicks like this.

Hope my hens kick up their laying a notch. I'm down to 3 hens laying, and only one of them is giving 5 a week, the rest are less... which would be ok, if this wasn't baking season! My son (10) tried to make brownies friday night, but thought the 1/4 teaspoon was 1/4 cup of baking powder! Never seen brownies puff up soooo big!

but, sigh, two eggs wasted.

looks like whoever gets my eggs will be getting a little bit of Silkie in there too. Seems that he is the only roo doing the do.
