not sure where to put this so here I go my cherrio rose (4months old) started laying on Tuesday and then gave egg wed that was good Thursday she hung out in her nesting desk for over 2 hours got up did the egg song but there was no egg, did the same thing yesterday and then this am i went out to clean the coop and found a shelles egg right under the roosting bar. I know its cherrios cuz my lilly and phionex both gave me eggs yesterday and little bit has not started to lay yet. Cherrios did the same thing again this am set on her nesting desk for about 45 min got up did the egg song but no egg.

No seince they have been able to have run of all 3 sections of my yard there chicken food is not being eaten hardly at all so i started spreding it out under the trees and stuff but they eating more bugs and stuff they find

now my ? is this no shell egg because seh is new at laying or should i lock her up and make her eat just her feed? should i be worrying about her health wise (she is normal except the shellless egg) do i need to do somithing or let nature take its course?

she is a 4 month old buff orphinton

This is not that unusual among young egg layers. I had one that did this frequently her first year, despite access to oyster shell. She seemed to grow out of it eventually. That being said, I would make sure she had access to extra calcium like oyster shell or crushed egg shells. You may already being doing that...

she just laid another one but she is also doing it on top of the purch so its droping and braking tonight i mixed there layer feed with there yogart and she muched it right up also thew it out where there scraching and eating all day long I sure hope this is not a perment thing but even if it is she is still a pet and has a life time home with me.

Only one of my four did this in the first year. They were usually found on the poop board underneath the roost in the mornings. She grew out of it. They all had the same diet. It could be genetics that cause it to happen more with some than others.

thats where she is laying hers on the poo board right under the purch and as soon as teh sun goes down they went in about 7:30ish and I went out about 8 and there it was its been like this 3 nights in a row. ugh

so every night she is dropping soft shell eggs while she is on the roosting bar but every moring she comes in sits on my desk for over hour then gets up does egg dance with no egg layed I have tryed to increase her calcum intake with no help if only she would hold the eggs in just a few more hours she would lay normal eggs I dont knwo what to do for her my mom keeps calling her dinner.

One of my 20 week old Buff Orp's is doing the same thing. I think it is normal. No egg but egg song, perch laying soft shell eggs. My birds have oyster shell free choice and a flock block in the coop. And she eats both. I think it is that she is new laying. Mine have been laying every other day for a week now. Still pullet size and on is doing the soft shells. I think they think it is a firm poo or something. Her "sister" consistantly goes into the nest box and delivers a nice hard shelled egg. So just being patient here.

I ment egg song not dance, shoot i wish she did a dance i could get of video would be cool.

it sucks out of 4 birds my 2 leghorns lay daily 10 and 11 am can set a clock to there egg laying now. then cherrios with her soft eggs and my little bit nothing as my mom says chicken fijitas sound goof for dinner. lol she just joking first and formost they are pets that give back.
