My chicken Scarlet has just begun to lay. Me and my family waited all day for the third egg, yet nothing happened. Her first and second egg she laid in the nesting box so i am pretty sure she knows where to lay, but, where is it?!
Here is a picture of Scarlet

By the way...This is my first thread! So cool! I LOVE YOU BYC!

P.S. Nothing different has happened here, same amount of food, water, grit, shells. The only thing that i can think of that is different is the heat we are having. It is in the 90's. Could that stop the egg laying?

Scarlet is beautiful! It's the waiting game. New layers are not always consistent. It's very common to see sporadic laying. Her and her body are still gearing up. Omelets are on there way! :)

Thanks so much! I was just itching for an answer! I had her second egg for breakfast this morning. It was probably the best egg i ever had! Thanks again!

You'll probably get it tomorrow! My BA laid her 1st and 2nd and then skipped a day and laid her 3rd. She's laid 7 eggs in 10 days so every now and then she skips a day.

PS- I like to blame the weather on allot of things but it's probably just that she's a new layer.
It won't hurt to try weather related fixes- some shade, ice in her water, electrolytes, fruit or veggie popsicles...

I live in AZ and it's getting up to 110 some days if not hotter. I like to fill empty liter bottles with water and freeze them then at about noon I put them in the coop so my girls can lay on and cool off a bit. They love them and I am glad I can do something to keep them a bit cool since they will soon be giving me some lovely eggs!

Super smart! I may try that, tomorrow it is getting in the 100's.
