3rd hatch PICS

I recently had a slow hatch from some shipped eggs. Most developed but never pipped. Or pipped and died in the shell. I had only one hatch. I did some reading and decided to adjust my temperature. I am using a still air Havobator. I had been running between 100 to 101. Everything I read about slow hatches - late hatches - and pipping and dying suggested the temperature was too low. Still air is suppose to be higher than circulated air incubators. So I have been running my next batch of shipped eggs between 101 and 102. So far so good. I won't hatch until new year, so I will have to see if this was really an issue or not. Quail eggs are just so much easier than chicken! LOL

I too have had some shipped eggs that didn't develop at all. So not sure that the temp had much affect on them.

cqranch...it could likely be young pullets whose reproductive system is just not fully developed.

I have some lovely barred bantam cochin pullets who have started to lay but instead of offering them for sale right away, I'm going to save them up and set them every 10 days and see how it goes for the next couple of months. I will say that I cracked a few of the pullets eggs and about 1 out of 4 had a blastoderm.

The results of your shipped eggs had nothing to do with your incubating practices. If they are ruined in shipping, they wont develop. With your own eggs, seems like partly a fertility issuse, as your own eggs should be nearing 100%, could be because the hens are young. The quitter eggs are probably from bacteria getting in the eggs. Also the shipped eggs that were developing, then quit, I have had shipped eggs like that also, seems like the egg is damaged, but allows the development of an early embryo on the yolk, but is too damaged for further development, in these eggs you will see alot of quitters and blood rings.
