I have 4 healthy but ugly looking brand new ducklings!! How exciting its my first hatch! However, there are still 9 eggs left in the bator. Some have some discoloring to them (looks bruised) and I have not seen movement but try not to mess with them too much either......Any idea why they are discolored? Today is day 27 and there arent any indications there is live animals in there.....don't want them to blow up in the bator....what should I do?

undefined:lol: Congrats on your new babies! The bruised looking eggs are probably dead, at least thats been my experience. You can sniff them and see if they smell rotten. And you could pick open the air sac end of the egg, peel shell back by little pieces and see whats up. If its dead it will be dark and nasty looking. If there is a dry, whitish and veiny membrane it may be alive but I havent found any life in a black and blue egg, sorry. Quetsweyo

how fun with the duckies you have.

Discoloration happens with some ducks breeds.
What type of ducks do you have?

Congratulations on your little ones.
I wouldn't give up on them yet.
Ducks incubate for 28 days and your days away from quitting on your little ones.
Can't wait to see some pics. I bet they're adorable and not ugly ducklings at all.

Sorry guys, I have been looking at them with a light and haven't seen movement for 2 days. I chipped at the shell where the airhole is and one after the other found fully formed, almost ready to hatch dead ducklings. It may have been the humidity, I don't know but they were all so close......I just cleaned out the bator, put the babies in the brooder and added 42 eggs to the bator, starting again at day 1. Better luck this time hopefully. I am not sure how to post the pics
