4 Chicks & Now Nothing From The Other Eggs?

Today is day 23 of incubation for my chicken eggs in my homemade incubator. Due to some low tempatures (not too low 90 was the lowest and only happened once. Usually my low was about 95. But not too often was my incubator this low, normally at night time.) the eggs have taken so long. I had 4 chicks hatch today, but unfortunatley I haven't even gotten a pip out of the remaining 14 eggs. Should I be worried? Will the other eggs hatch? Is there usually a long wait in between the first chicks and the last? How long should I wait on the other eggs for?

I recently had 24 Rode Island red eggs that I hatched. Out of the 24 only 20 where fertile. I had eggs hatch up all the way until 4 days after the hatch day. Some pipped and hatch on the last day .It was my first time incubating, but I got 14 out of 20, so I think I did okay. I had some temperature problems like you are seeming to have. Good luck!

Thank you. I just had to help one of the 4 chicks hatch out of there egg last night. It was pipping for over 30 hours but couldn't make any progress. When I took the egg shell and eventually the membrane off the chick, I soon realized she had a super thick rubbery membrane. There is no way she could have got out of that. Do you think the other eggs could have this same problem but maybe can't pip?

One of my chickies had the same problem. I had to help her out too, she had a very thick membrane too ! . I like to know about what causes it to be thick. she is fine now after helping her out of the shell 33 hours later !

I had to help a few of them in the end because of a similar problem. I personally think that if its been long enough that they are going to die, then just help them out. But that's up to you, other people will say that it is the survival of the fittest. I personally care to much for life to have that theory. Good luck!

That is how I am too. I just candled 4 eggs. And all but one was black (meaning there is a chick inside). The one that was not developing also wasn't developing last time I candled it, so it really doesn't count. And when I compared the eggs to an eating egg it was a lot lighter. There are no pips through the air cells (that I could see). But I think there is still hope. How much longer would you reccomend waiting before intervening?

I am also new to this. How late are your chicks? If the egg has piped I would help it out after a full day or so if the baby is getting weak to the point you worry it will die. As for an egg that has not piped. I do not know. I have no recommendations for that. There is a chance the baby chick has already died in the egg if the eggs are not chirping at lest. I had an egg that barley had a crack in it, and the baby inside got to the point that it had stop chirping even. So after a full day of this I helped it out, its was gasping inside the egg. The baby had dried to the egg and wouldn't have been able to get out. The only advice I can give is to use your best judgment. Do what you think is right. You can only learn from trying. I know that is not much help, but its the only help I can offer. I survived my first hatching and learned a lot from it. Though I am a bit scared to do another, lol. But I got 14 out of 20, so I felt pretty good about it, because I hear people that know what there doing sometimes have a very low hatch rate. Sorry I seemed to have rambled a bit.

Thank you. My 4 hatched yesterday (Day 23). But like I said I had some low temps. Do you remember how long it was from your first pipped egg until your last pipped egg? I am waiting on 14 more eggs to pip.
