4 dayold chick prolapsed vent??

I am glad she is getting better....mine were suffering really bad! I hope this is the end of it...mine got the lump back and their butt was so swollen it was like it was swollen shut. Good Luck!

Hi - so glad things seem better... i am new at this- i have my first chicks - 13 coronation sussex- that i got as day olds. they are now almost 2 weeks old and everyone is healthy.. except one has poo that is just a little loose. Anyway, i had no idea how common it is to have trouble with chicks being sick and i am so paranoid and feel like i'm living on borrowed time just waiting for someone to show some horrible symptoms.. i check them constantly. Sooo, i feel i need to prepare myself for the worst case scenario, and would like to know how you Could "Cull" a chick if the need ever arises that doesn't involve anything too gruesome?

So far so good with the compacted chick. She is still doing really well. I sure do appreciate everyones input into the matter.
Culling in this situation is just a nice word for killing. Whatever method one chooses to use should be quick.

I have personal experience with this. I had 2 chicks...both rumpless Araucanas. I got them as day olds. I had been watching my chicks for pasty butt...so that was NOT it. They would try and try to poop...with no success. After awhile their anus's did not look right, they protruded. One had a large hard lump just inside the anus. I ran his back end under warm water and massaged the lump until it broke up and passed.... It did not solve the problem! I watched them suffer to poop relentlessly for 2 days......I got some good advice to put them out of their misery as they would not get better just suffer a horrible death. So I culled them to stop their suffering. My advice is the same...sorry.
I had this exact thing happen with a rumpless Araucana, too. I did similar things, even soaked his backend in warm water for 5 minutes, fed him boiled egg yolk laced with oil, anything I could think of to make it pass. He is fine! I only had to keep an eye on him a few days and that was it.

I have some 4 week old Cochins. One just had a protruding vent. The vet was not bloody but I could tell by the B feathers that previous stools had been bloody. Gave her a warm bath to clean her up and push it back in. She IS pooping. The poop IS bloody. Her vent came right back out but again, it itself is not bloody. She is isolated and eating a little. I can tell she doesn't feel well

Any suggestions other that prep H? And, do I need to get the prep H inside the vent or just on the outside?

Hey, I have a chick with a similar situation now. She’s about a week and a half old. Her vent is protruding. I tried olive oil on a Q-tip to help her out a little. What did you find out about the Prep H?

UPDATE on baby chick...after 2 hours or so of chick laboring to poop, I checked it again. It's vent was hard as a rock and something hard and white was sticking out a little. When I felt it, it was hard. I oiled the inside of the vent with mineral oil and the next time she bore down I pulled on the item. We did that twice before it finally came out. I don't know what it was or how it got there. It looked like a piece of white chalk the size of a large pea. behind it was green powdery clumps. The chick looked as if she was going to die from exhaustion and probably pain. I put more PrepH on its vent and left her with the others. It slept for two hours without eating or drinking but seemed perkier. I don't know if it will live or not.
Does anyone have any idea what that chalky thing could have been?
How do you oil the inside and how much?
