Sounds more like someones catching & releasing coons in your area.

We live next to state game lands, there's a huge rock outcropping and a creek. We have both kinds rock racoons and river racoons,.plus foxes, opossum. No one hunts them as it's not profitable and they dont have any other predators so the population is booming.

My dog cornered one once and scared one up a tree, it was either really fat or pregnant... Because it's belly was wrapped around the tree as it was trying to climb, scraping the bark with it

No natural predators is the problem. We have to respect nature and it's inhabitants, but that has to be balanced with over-population and invasion into residentials areas
