4 ft by 4ft coop will hold how many?

You are way off….. plenty of room for eight or even 10. Especially with three nice perches.
You do realize chickens don't just go into a coop and power down like a robot, right? They don't tend to do well if they're stuck in a box with a ton of birds and not a lot of space to get away if they need to.

How much ventilation does that coop have. To me, that would be the most important element. If you don't have enough (at least 1sq ft per bird) you are going to have health issues.

I agree with Janie. I have a 4x4 hen house and 2 x 4' roosts at 2 levels. They all pack on the top roost with the silkies on the floor. It's more about how often you want to clean it and how much ventilation you have. I have a large run and they all are fine. My only issue is the roo chasing the hens all around when I let them out. Inside the hen house, they don't have an issue. He'd probably chase them around the block if they were free ranged.🤨

I had to add my two cents. I had a 12x12 box stall for my chickens they loved it in the summer but in the winter they liked to go into the 3x4 dog house at the end of the barn. They would pile right up and be happy as can be when I would feed in the morning they would all come running out like a magic trick. I would always find a few eggs as well. Silly birds.
