My name is Rebecca and I live in NE Colorado. My 17 year old daughter is a 9 year 4-H member and the current Colorado 4-H State President. She has wanted chickens for several years but we had told her that she had to wait until she was done with her duties as a state officer. For the past two years, as a state officer and then president, she has traveled all over the state and country. Earlier this year, my husband and I had talked about it and told her that we would plan on building her a coop and run this spring so she could have chickens when her term expires in June. With everything that has been going on in the world, her travel has been halted and she now runs all of her meetings online. Not being able to travel has been hard on her and the conferences and workshops that she has been working on for a year have been cancelled. We have decided to help her focus her energy into chickens. We live in a rural farming community where chickens are common. Being a 4-H member, she has grown up around chickens and knows quite a bit about the care of them (which is why she wants them). She talked with poultry members and asked them for recommendations. Her first order of rainbow hens will be arriving in a month and we are preparing for them. Over the next couple of weeks we will working hard to build a coop and run. We are looking forward to the addition of chickens on our property.

Welcome Rebecca, from Georgia, the Poultry capital of the world (2018).. Glad you have joined this chicken crazy board.

Here is a quick link to the articles area, lots of info on this forum, just look around. Also if you have a specific question the search engine (top right) is actually very good..
