We have a city flock of 3 ladies and we just aren't getting quite enough eggs - I'd like to add just one more (4 is the legal limit here) - My girls have full run of our fenced yard daily and even on cold winter days rarely stay inside. The coop is 4' x4' with a 4' roof that slopes down. We have plans to rebuild this summer anyway, but until then, do you think that I can add another to the hut? I'd rather not wait if you think they can fit ok... since I know y'all are going to ask - they are all pretty big - I've got a Cochin, an EEer, a Langshan and am looking to add an Orpington.
Thanks!

I think you could add another one, but if I'm wrong hopefully someone will chime in and correct me!

The general rule is 4sq ft per bird, so it should work. I like to give mine 6sq ft each, but if the are able to free range they should be ok. You will know if they are overcrowded, because they will pick each other. Good luck!

If you use the 4sq ft per bird rule you can add one more. Just be sure that you do have 16sq ft of free floor space. You should be fine since you plan on rebuilding soon.

I started with six in a coop that is 4x4x3, but I added a run to it that is 4wide x 8 long x 6 high. So theres plenty of room. If your chicks have run of a back yard which i assume is much bigger then my run there should be no problem for 4 (which is currently what I have)
