Hi, first post for us. We have a 4 week old Ameraucana, we think silver and we suspect male--and we're hoping that those of you in-the-know will be able to give us some feedback. She's bigger, a bit louder, and definitely more aggressive than our other two chicks of the same age (a Rhode Island Red and Black Australorp). Her comb is already quite pink and looks like it will be more than one ridge. Also although not visible in the photos, her wings have large patches of white feathers. Is this coloring pattern more indicative of a rooster? Or is it too soon to tell? We live in the city and would rather not wait for the crowing to begin if we need to find a new home for her. Thank you for any help.

Wow, thank you so much for your immediate replies and helpful links! We clicked on all the links (Corey we think is very, very cute and a softer-looking version of our Easter Egger). Good to know what he is and what he isn't!!

While we are sorry to give up such a lively chicken so full of antics, he was a little nervous-making to watch. Not a peaceable chicken among chickens, but nice to hold and converse with! We will miss his vigorous scratching and raking. On the other hand, we will not miss his eventual crowing and break-away habits. Based on a half-hour spent under the shrubs looking for him, we think he could zigzag down a football field with the best of them.

We can only hope that our next chicken (hen) will be as sweetly independent as the Rhode Island Red and Australorp that we have.

Thank you again for your help.
