4 week old blue cochin with slash on her neck...

How often should I reapply the Blu-Kote? I found this wound on her neck yesterday, and since she didn't appear to be being picked on (other than having thinner down feathers on her neck there) I left her in. It's scabbed over, and doesn't appear infected... she appears happy and healthy, and active just like the other chickies.

Anyway, yeah... I brought her up and used a Q-tip to but the Blu-Kote on her neck... now she is flopped over on her side in my lap as I type this... (oh my goodness, AWW, sweet). Are Cochins always this adorably sweet?? LOL

I wish I knew what hurt her. I am thinking either she somehow got hurt on the steel feeder (putting her head in the feeder hole) or maybe a big chicken pecked her through the fence.

I'm sitting here petting her and she is leaning into it and closing her eyes... oh my goodness, I might end up with a pet chicken here!!

as long as it's still nice and purple and covered good so the others won't be tempted to mess with it. you might not have to do it again. What a sweet story, sounds like your smitten. when wounds start to heal they always itch for some reason. try to keep her nails cut as short as you can till it heals up.

I brought her inside and reapplied before I read this post. I think the blu-kote irritates her, because she kept scratching after I put it on.

LOL, I am smitten, she really is a sweetheart. After that I put her on her own little paper towel and cuddled with her on the bed and watched TV for 30 mins. She was happiest with my hand resting heavily on her back. Then I gave her to my mom to watch while I dealt with something and she did a nosedive into the blankets... so here is this darling blue chicken with a purple neck totally sprawled out in her lap. Oh my goodness, I love this chicken! LOL

Oh yeah, I have purple fingers. LOL. The blu-kote ran down the Q-tip, DOH.
