Hello, one of our chicks has a bad eye that is swollen and has been since we got her but now it's cloudy looking. She came with a swollen eye when we got her at 2 days old (it DID NOT look this bad when we got her) and we originally thought she might have coryza and tried to treat with vetRX but it seems to be getting worse and the VetRX has not seemed to help. She is NOT lethargic and doesn’t seem to have any other sign of respiratory disease so we’re thinking it’s not coryza and instead is maybe just a birth defect.

Thoughts? Anything else we can try to help treat it?

Hi,

Sorry such a late reply here.

You could try a warm compress on it. I would rinse its eye with sterile saline solution, then apply Terramycin to the eye. That should help if it's an eye infection.

The Terramycin might help to prevent infection, but the bluish swollen skin around the cloudy opaque eye, make me think it could be a punctured eye or bleed into or behind the eye. Is the chick acting normally, and is it able to find food and water?
