My slice of Heaven on Earth...
Hi there,

I have 14 baby pullets, all 3-4 weeks old, various breeds.

Monday morning when I went to let them out of the coop this one pullet, couldn't walk on her left leg..she kept on falling over driving her face straight into the dirt...of course I though she broke her leg ( I have had that happen once before with a full grown rooster, managed to heal it for him using a chicken sling), anyhow...so we pulled her from the brood and put her by herself in a kennel so she could rest, she has now been in our utility room since monday mid day...no improvement, rather now she is getting worse..she is acting like she has seizures, her neck twists back and flips over, it is really weird...She can not stand up, keeps falling over, and sometimes when she sits in your hand her head just flops over to the side and rolls under her...what is going on?

Is this treatable or should we just help her along so she won't suffer...

Any help would be appreciated.

Look up wry neck. The treatment is usually vitamins. Start now. I would use a couple drops poly vi sol, without iron, twice daily and 100 ius of vitamin E twice daily.

Ok, I googled and looked here...seems to be conflicting ideas but overall vitamin deficiency is the number one thing...will start her on vitamin E tomorrow, I have none at home tonight, the gelcap kind, broken and mixed into food or what? What else can I do?
The leg, or her acting like it is broken is unrelated no? I mean maybe she fell off the roost, in a bad way and then her wry neck started?

So many questions, I'm sorry.

You just snip the end off the capsul and squeeze it into their beak. Leg problems have also been associated with vitamin deficiencies. Vitamin B is also good to give...that's why I use the poly vi sol. It contains a number of b vitamins.

Ok, will get some tomorrow..just fed her some soaked oatmeal with nutritional yeast on it, i.e very vitamin B rich...she ate with gusto, but then had a seizure, pretty bad one, her head jerked back and then rolled completely under her stomach for a few seconds...the entire time I fed her, holding her in my hand, since she can't stand on her own..she trembled like miniature seizures.

Hoping we can rescue this little one...we had a duck, a few years back with wry neck and she came out of it like it was nothing...eating nutrional yeast then as well.

Thank you for all your help.
