We have a smallish run and coop set up for teenage hens and I'm wondering if we could move our four week old chicks outside and add their brinsea heat plate out with them? Would they be ok? 80s next week

Anyone? I double checked temps and it looks like 45 will be the low tonight. Too low even with the Broder? I don't want to stress them too much but moving them inside to outside too much

Four week old chicks need access to 75-80 dregree temps so check your temps and see.

I leave mine out all day there only 3 weeks old the temps are around 85-90, but I still bring them in at night once temps hit 75 or below

Do you guys just put them in the run? How do you get them to come back so they can go in the brooder overnight?
It's warm enough out for mine during the day, for sure. But my run isn't really set up where I can get in there to bring them back...

I've had all mine out since 3 weeks with no additional heat. The first group are now about 12 weeks old and all are just fine. As long as they don't have a chilly draft and do have a cozy corner to snuggle in, they'll be fine. Worst case scenario is you wind up with hardier chickens, but that's a good thing ;)

I put mine out in the coop only at 4 weeks they are 5 weeks old now and doing fine I only used the light outside the first day for light not heat. And took it away the next day. As long as they are feathered out they will be fine just make sure they have enough room and are secure from predators, I would leave the in the coop for a few days before you let them out into the run.

As long as they know where home is, they'll go back in the coop on their own at dusk. I have noticed with mine that the young ones like to stay out late, though, so don't sweat it if the older ones are already in bed and the little ones are still out. My 8-week-olds go to bed almost a whole hour later than the 12-week-olds!

I put my girls outside at two weeks of age, from brooder to a grow up coop that I built inside my main coop. It has two solid walls on the sides, back wall is plywood in the bottom and 1/2 inch hardware cloth on top, front has a five foot door half plywood half hardware cloth and a five foot wall made from hardware cloth with a 2x2 frame. I live in Sothern Arizona so it doesnt get to cold, I recomend building a griw up coop and add some heat lamps for night time use.
