4 weeks today - I think I already know the sexes - Black Australorps

Not quite the 6 week stage, but I think it is clear what these two babies are.

#1 pullet
#2 cockerel

Both hatched and raised by momma.



Confirmation ?

I would say 1 is definitely a pullet, but possibly a little early to be certain that 2 is a cockerel. It probably is though.

Only because there are some pink to the wattle already I would say #2 is a boy but check back in a couple weeks.

By 4 weeks, BA cockerels are usually sporting a big comb and wattles.

These are too young to accurately sex. Post updated pics at 6 weeks.

I agree that it is too early. Check back at 6 weeks if it isn't clear by then.

My Australorp boys have much larger combs than that at 4 weeks, but it's possible that you've got a slow-developer male.

My australorp had me sweating bullets at 4 weeks with that kind of comb and wattles, but she stopped developing them past that point (until approaching POL).
