I noticed my rooster, Loubert, limping a day or so ago. I checked both feet, which of course had a thin layer of mud and dirt. Checking further I noticed a small cut on his left foot and some smeared blood. Not a lot of blood, my initial thought was he cut open a hen with his spur. I checked all hens they were ok. Today he is limping quite a bit, we caught him and his middle toenail on his right foot appeared to have built up mud caked on it, I flicked the end of the "mud" off and blood spurted everywhere! Got him inside in an Epsom salt bath and the toenail is black and mushy. Do I leave the toenail on, and it will fall off on its own or do I try to remove it myself? I put blu-kote on it and put him back outside to help keep him calm. What do I do? I am going to try and post pictures as well.
