Ostriches can kill you with one good placed kick, just a warning in case someone here buys any. I would like some ostriches some day, but emus are smaller, and seem nicer, and can't kill you.

Ostriches,Emus, and Rheas all three can kill a person, by kicking you, the toe nails are the danger.
The danger time is during the breeding season. Male set on the eggs and will protect the eggs and chicks.
My emus are VERY tame but I never take for granted that they can cause some real harm with their feet.
In addition to the breeding season, my female goes absolutely nuts when the chicks hatch. She's not trying to protect them... just the opposite. She'll go through anybody or anything to get to the chicks to stomp them.
I have heard that emus have a better dispostion than ostrichs though. The person who gave me my breeding pair switched from ostrichs to emus for just that reason.
