My daughter is a 1st year 4H'er and she is taking a breed we have never owned before, buff silkie bantam. They are very friendly and small which works well for her size. We have 13 for her to choose one rooster and one hen from for fair. The hens are easy to choose from, but the roosters are all different looking. There aren't two alike. Their combs are different and feathers are different. I found the breed standards online but I'm not sure which rooster fits the standards best. Any input from someone knowledgeable would be wonderful as our poultry chair person in our county is unable to help. One has a walnut comb but it's a dark raspberry color, not mulberry and he also has some shiny black tail feathers. All the other roosters have nice hair like fe

athers and their combs are dark mulberry but their combs are not a full walnut comb, (they look more like a shriveled thumb). I'll post pics of our roosters below. Which rooster is best for her to take to fair?

I personally don't like the red combs.

This is one of the biggest challenges I have seen in breeding Silkies as well.

I'm not familiar with how they score, since I haven't shown... but I would choose the fault with the least amount of points being docked.

Check for all black toes. There MUST be 5 of them on each foot... not 4 and not 6.

Hope this is helpful and good luck! :fl

This is helpful, thank you. I just need to find if points will be deducted more for a red comb that's a well developed walnut, or a poorly developed black comb. Luckily all feet are black with 5 toes
