jojo@rolling acres farm :
We live on an acreage and our property is surrounded by a deep ravine and creek with woods on three of the four sides. Our neighbors who live up on a ridge North of us, have an adult son that is a complete and total moron that lives in Omaha. Last year, he brought out his fireworks and buddies to the "farm" to set off fireworks - oh, goody.
He pointed all of the fireworks in our direction. Thankfully, I had just moved the ponies from the pasture to their barn not five minutes before the hellfire started to rain down on our pasture and property. It was like a fire storm. I felt like I was living in a war zone. The entire night sky was lit up for a good 25-30minutes. Had I not put the ponies away - they would have certainly gone through the wire fencing.
My dogs were not as lucky. I have a lab mix that was so scared he disappeared for three days. It was a nightmare. I did call the neighbors that evening and let them know what their fireworks display caused. I asked them to point them towards their own property and away from mine. If the same thing happens this year - I'll be more prepared...and I'll also be driving over to deliver my message in person. They'll also be cleaning up the mess that the stupid things left behind - paper, cardboard and all kinds of little crappy things to pick up.
My chickens and geese were put up for the night they were not affected at all and I didn't notice any change in my hen's laying patterns. Hopefully yours won't be affected either.
Good Luck...wishing you and your animals a safe 4th.
thanks...we go all out with fireworks and guns till about 4 in the morning and clean up is the least fun part
...but we will be about 100 yards from the chickens so i was just wondering...and if i lived near you id help you out with your neighbor problem...that's our specialty lol...we don't put up with jerks like that...but thanks again
