Hey Josh!Hi I'm Josh, I live in Victoria Canada and I'm eagerly awaiting 5 Ancona Ducks. Can't wait to ask some questions and learn some things before I make all the mistakes!
From a backyard breeder here in Victoria, I can pm you his info if you like. However, despite his ad they are not pure Anconas. They are mixed with silver appleyard. And I got quite the assortment of colors.Hey Josh!
Congrats! I live up in Campbell and am having a hard time finding Anconas on the island. Where do you find yours?
Aww, congrats! They are soo cute! From a backyard breeder here in Victoria, I can pm you his info if you like. However, despite his ad they are not pure Anconas. They are mixed with silver appleyard. And I got quite the assortment of colors.
After doing a lot of research I think it seems the ancona color standard is pretty hard to achieve without eventually losing more important characteristics like egg laying and size. The only 'Ancona' in my gang now is the runt and even they are showing iridescence in the black spots and a very interesting appleyard splash of blue in the wings.
Only time will tell. Here's a pic of my gang now at 6 weeks
