5 day old baby goat bloated

Just a comment on GasX. Before I learned about it I used all the approved treatments for bloat including oil and the veterinary concoctions sold for bloat. The usual result, no matter what I tried, was a dead goat. A neighbor who had a large dairy told me about GasX. She said that was what she used. I found tried it and found it was safe, fast, and very effective. If you haven't already left for the feed supply, get some clostridium perfingens antitoxin while you are there. As I said, I have seen entero in some very young kids and it usually presents as bloat.

If you're going to Tractor Supply get a 3cc syring w no needle and you can dribble the oil or GasX or whatever you're giving into his mouth. Put the syringe tip just inside his cheek and let him slowly swallow. You don't want tonhave him spluttering or choking with too much at once.

Is there goat milk available at all? From a doe that can be milked, etc.? Baby goats tend to nurse for a few min every 10 or 15 min it seems, which is hard to duplicate, but smaller frequent meals may have less bloat than big meals hours apart.

Just a comment. The GasX I used was in tablet form so there was no need to dribble anything. You just poke it down the throat. I can't see any advantage to goat milk. Baby goats do just fine on cow milk. I have literally raised several hundred kids on it. If you use raw goat milk there is always the risk of transmitting CAE unless the milk comes from a clean herd and unless it is tested you have no way of knowing. Since I had a dairy I did not have the time to feed kids multiple times a day. I started them off with three or four feedings and then shortly they were on twice a day feedings. They did not bloat because of that. The cases of bloat I had were in kids being fed replacer because I was short of milk and/or kids coming down with entero. I lived in an area where entero was very common probably due to the pH of the soil. Kids with constipation may look bloated also and infant suppositories took care of that.
