I don't know what happened, but for some reason one of my Easter egger chicks started favouring its right leg tonight. I noticed it after I had picked it up and gently pulled off some droppings from its back (I've seen them poop on each other! Crazy!) while keeping an eye out for at-risk pasty butts.

I picked it up again and could not visibly see what's wrong with its leg. I noticed it may not have quite as much energy as the others. I'm not completely sure because the chicks were all hunkering down for the night-sleep.

Not wanting to lose another chick, my mom and I got some supplies together in the house (50 quart plastic bin, some food, some water with a tiny dose of electrolytes, paper towels, a towel, and a hot water bottle*). The EE was very comfortable in my warm hands as I did what I could with one hand. I'll be placing the bin as close to my head as safely possible and will no doubt sleep lightly, keeping a keen ear on the alert for any peeping. I might even stay up all night. I really don't want to lose this one.

Is there anything more I can do?

* I have a spare ceramic heat emitter, but I couldn't find anything to securely hold it, so I had to settle with a hot water bottle.

The little one survived the night!

Didn't move though from the heat. Refilled the bottle with hot water again. Picked up the chick and dipped its beak in the water - it drank. Dipped at the food - ate one or two pieces of the starter. Seems to have more energy today.

Edit: (9:30am CDT) It's starting to use its leg every now and then, and is eating independently. I've noticed when it's laying down, every once in a while it shakes its head like it's trying to shake off an irksome fly. Not sure if it's normal or if it's a sign of something like AE. Right now it's laying down and there's nothing out of the ordinary going on.
