5 day old chick prolapse? Screaming when she tries to poop. PLEASEHELP

I'm hopping on this thread, one of mine sounds a little bit like this. I hope we both have good outcomes!

I just posted another thread but one of mine is doing this too, except she is leaking urine. She does get poop out, but yelps everytime.

I'd put them on medicated chick starter. It's better for them in general... and mix that with some cornmeal too. That keeps the pasty butts away! What is in their water? Have you given them booster?

Hi guys, Iḿ having the same problem with two of mine...I lost one this morning. They are on medicated feed. I don´t think medicated vs. unmedicated has anything to do with this...this doesn´t look like cocci to me. The chicks that are affected seem to have halted in their growth cycle...kind of stagnant. I´ve done the warm baths, nothing seems to be able to help. With the prolapse, Iḿ just cleaning her off, and pushing it back in gently. Iḿ taking her over to a friend´s house today to see if she has any advice/tips for me.

I don´t know about the enema...Iḿ willing to give it a try. Anyone done this and know how much to put in? Iḿ going to give some yogurt and then clean out the brooder, then go from there.

Good luck everyone!

I have read a few times that molasses works as a laxative for chicks. One large drop in a tablespoon of warm water, fed by an eye dropper, 6-12 sips per day. Make it new each time or it will ferment. Be careful not to get the liquid in the nostrils.

I just received my order from MPC two days ago. I also had a chick with a prolapsed vent and posted about it last night. I say "had" because I woke up to her dead this morning. I did not get the chance to try prep-H as someone suggested I try. I hope it works for you.

My baby was a quail Antwerp Belgian. Our chickens are our pets too. I am sorry you are going through this.

Any time there is a lot of tissue swelling, plain old sugar will really draw out the excess fluid, so it's less likely to prolapse again. As far as amount of enema, I wouldn't do more than a cc (1 ml) for a little chick. You can always repeat.
