Oklahoma is OK!
I received 8 chicks from Ideal 5 days ago. One of them I’ve noticed has been crusty/pasty. After giving a gentle soak I noticed her vent is red and protruding. Her abdomen is also dark. She eats, drinks, is active and poops. I’ve added granulated sugar to her vent and tried gently pushing it back in while oiled. She is also smaller than the rest. I’ve added probiotics to water. I’m not sure what else to do, or will this clear up on its own? Help.
Note that the pic was taken after a soak and she was immediately dried afterward.

Hopefully, the prolapse will go back in on it’s own soon. I would offer her sips of water often, and make a small dish of chicken feed with water added to make a mush. A small chunk or two of coconut oil to peck, or a couple of drops of molasses can act as a mild laxative in case she has been straining to poop. Keep her bottom clean and clear. Pasty butt sometimes is a symptom of shipping stress and dehydration. Many chicks with a prolapse will survive. Time will tell. Good luck.

Thank you. I’ll do that. She does seem fine otherwise, I hope it heals up.
