We moved and are starting our flock from scratch, so I thought this would be an excellent time to try new breeds. They will quite literally be in our sizable "backyard" with my 6 kiddos, silly banties, and all the wildlife imaginable in Western Oklahoma. So, I am hoping for docile, but predator savvy. Tough combo. So, I'd love to hear your experiences with
1) Salmon Faverolles
2) Dominiques
3) Australorps
4) Easter Eggers
and 5) Brown Leghorns

We've actually had BLs before, but they seemed much flightier than this set. That's why I picked a BL rooster-I know they're handsome and very good at protecting their ladies. I also picked a Fav rooster(but it looks like they gave us 2) and am hoping he's a laid back fellow.
I've done quite a bit of research on these breeds, but prefer to hear about personal experiences!
We've had Buff Orpingtons and Barred Rocks before, but had some hiccups with each, so I'm excited about our new little ones.

Well, your Faverolle is a cockerel. Dominiques are very similar to Barred Rocks, active, inquisitive, and tend to be more dominant. Australorps are quiet and tend to be very submissive, mine are the broodies in my flock. There are no guarantees with anything when it comes to Easter Eggers. Since they aren't bred towards any kind of standard, there is a huge range of temperaments and sizes. I've had tiny, 4lb nut jobs and I've had super mellow 8lb hens. And everything in between.
Easter Eggers are by far my favorite, simply for the mystery. Each one is different in their own way.

Easter egger are one of my favorites so sweet and gentle will run right up to you when you open the door.I love them as for the other I have heard great reviews on them but have never kept them but want to.
My EEs seem to be so sweet! One is super light colored-almost a lavender and pink tint to her feathering. She is a curious one and enjoys being held or hanging out on my hands! The other 3 EEs seem relaxed and have some equally fabulous coloring, but all very different from one another. One is a deep gray with touches of dark brown. One looks like a chipmunk. And the other is very pink/Salmon shaded. It is so fun to guess at what they'll look like and act like as adults!

My little fav chickie pic is certainly a cockerel! I giggle at the sight of him-I have a feeling he was the bonus chick from the hatchery. I'm beyond fine with that because Fav Roos are so handsome and I don't know what they do with their extra roos at hatcheries. My marked Fab cockerel doesn't have nearly as much black as this guy and is smaller and less feathered out. They are going to be handsome boys! My Barred Rocks before were super laid back ladies compared to my mean old Buff Orpingtons. I loved the stealy gazes of my BOs, and they were the dominant and aggressive birds in my old flock. The BO roo we had was named Elvis. He used to be a flogging machine! I brought a tough wooden broomstick out in the chicken yard one day and he pecked himself silly on it. He never flogged me again. I just carried the stick out there and eventually that big boy was eating out of my hands. I miss those mean old biddies-they were the most fabulous mothers I've ever seen. The low birds on the totem pole in that flock were the Brown Leghorns. They just came in to lay and bolted right back out and kept to themselves. I'm excited to see the EEs personalities. They're 2 weeks and a day and all pretty easygoing. Those puffy cheekies are hard to resist!

Oh, and my Australorps do hardly ever make a peep-the Favs peep the most, especially one of the roosters. The lorps just happily float about the chicken tractor.

My profile pic is my Brown Leghorn Cockerel(Hank) and he is surprisingly calm compared to the flightly BLs I'm used to in my previous flock. I love his tall stance and that look!

Look like you have a fun flock ho !many roosters you have?
Of the new chicks, we ordered 2 and look to have 3. In our game bantam flock the mama hens hatched we look to have 4! Ahhh!!! Those can be tricky to keep together, but they're all crowing and haven't had any epic battles, yet. Just the morning test of dominance. Darth Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn are the constantly trying to figure out who's top dog of a morning. They are friendly with us and their crows are fabulously pathetic still!
