I have 10 1 year old hens and 29 chicks about 12-16 weeks old 5 of them are rooster is this a good ratio or too much on the hens. If any of the roosters are mean to the hens we aren’t afraid to turn them to dinner

Generally people that have 40 birds, have few problems with roosters. Generally if you have that many birds you have a lot of space, a lot of protection, hideouts, ways for birds to get away from each other.

On the other hand, some might not work, some might. Don't start culling until you need to whatever the reason. There is no perfect way to raise roosters, no magic number that makes everything work, no perfect set up, or training. It is rather the luck of the draw.

I do have a pet theory that rooster chicks raised up under mature hens, do make better roosters, all they way around. But it is just a theory, not fool proof.

They live in the barn rafters and got about 10 acres to run around and free range so if one is getting bullied it can run and hide and if a rooster is causing problems he will end up dinner and the problem solved
