What are five things you have learned from having/owning chickens?

some breeds tear up the ground more than others

once I hatch out a batch of chicks I always want to do more, very addicting.

bigger coops are always better so adding more chickens is easier.

making sure that the fenced in run is high enough to walk in without having to crouch down.

when you hear them squawking you go running outside to make sure their isn't some predator in the yard trying to take your chickens.
(once I heard my chickens squawking, ran out and screamed at the sight of a bald eagle swooping down trying to grab my chicken only to be startled by my scream and fly off empty handed. turns out it was one of my roosters and he only had some feathers missing, no wounds.) sometimes we aren't always that lucky though.

Roosters can be mean to the hens when they're young, but often mellow out as they get older.

When you see a chicken that isn't acting right, don't wait and see what happens. Look it over and if necessary treat for disease/injury.

Some chickens are fast molters, but others take months to molt.

If you spoil your chickens, they can become almost as affectionate and trained as a dog.

Hatching chicks is addicting.

-Everyone is unique: Funny, serious, loud, reserved.
-Always remember where the "good" bugs are...who has the best treats! YUM!
-Be proud of what you have accomplished: every egg is an event!
-Don't let the rabble get you down! You are unique and if they don't see it-- peck their ****** heads until they do, ****-it!
-Did I mention remembering where the "good" bugs are.....

im never alone when i am doing yard work
there is nothing more exciting than when your chicks start hatching in the incubator
some breeds are more friendly than others
cross breeding is fun when the chicks come out beautiful
i never thought i would bend over backwards to save a birds life

5. Don't trust neighborhood dogs.
4. Build the coop the RIGHT way FIRST.
3. Bigger is better.
2. Pecking order comes from chickens.... It is hard to integrate new chicks into a flock.
