5 toe chicks from 4 toe parents.

Right now I am hatching out chicks, the black bearded Americuna mother with a Cuckoo Maran father hens are coming out with 5 toes. I assume this means its a recessive trait but I never heard of either breed carrying this recessive trait. There is some doubt if the Americuna is truly an Americuna since I bought her from people who didn't turn out to be trustworthy with other chickens I bought from them, however the Cuckoo Maran came from Hoover Hatchery. One of the chicks even has one leg with 5 toes and another leg with 4. Does anyone have a good grasp on the 5 toe genetics that can add to what i have posted or even correct any assumptions I have made?

Extra toes is a dominant gene. Maybe it was just a mutation? I would keep the chick and breed it. Maybe something interesting would happen

I finally caught mother hen, she is elusive when free ranging (actually yarding, but with many places to hide) She has 5 toes. Wasted everyones time with a tale of Mutations! but I did learn that the 5 toes is dominant. I also have a Cochin Pullet with five toes on one leg and 4 on the other. It was from the TSC bantam assortment so who knows what the deal is with that. Thanks for all the replies.

I wasn't going to be much help with this one.
I was thinking it was dominate myself since I've hatched silkie crosses as well as faverolle crosses and both produced extra toe chicks.
When you said they were from 4 toe parents I couldn't figure that out unless like Hilacraft said it was just a spontaneous mutation.
