I finally got the blue cochin chicks that were lost in the mail. Everyone made it! These chicks are HUGE- but I've been hatching banties lately so...

One of the chicks is TINY, blue, has 5 toes on black feet with feathers on the outside toe- like brahmas do. It also looks like it used to be wearing a helmet- if you know what I mean?

Is this some kind of EE or Auracauna? Silkie?

I'm stumped- we have a dozen breeds but nothing like this. It must have been a substitution for the shortageof blues to fill my order.
It should NOT be a cross- as Meyer isn't supposed to sell crosses.

Yep silkies are small at birth. They grow to be a little larger height wise than a bantam cochin but not so heavy looking unless it is a roo.

silkies are bantam i have 4 litlle chcikies right now too

That sounds like a silkie to me but I don't know everything about all breeds so I could be wrong but you just described (besides the foot feathering) several babies in my brooder right now. The foot feathering just could be poor foot feathering which is not uncommon in hatchery silkies.

Yep- you guys are right- Meyer does have blue silkies. It was a pleasant surprise. I'd never actually buy any- I am trying to stick with hearty breeds- but she'll be fine with the banties. She's a sweet addition to the flock!
