Anyone else have experience with a chick that was runted to this degree? She’s perfectly healthy otherwise, eats and drinks, poops fine, is cold tolerant as much as a regular 5 week hen, she’s just small!

Do you know what kind she is? Keep a close eye on her. She may be a bantam or just growing a little slower. But she also may have failure to thrive. Is she getting enough to eat and drink? She is adorable and I hope it is one of the first two.

My sapphire gem was a little bit smaller than the other chicks at 3 weeks, but by 10 or 12 weeks she caught up and outgrew everyone. She is now the largest chicken we have. Three weeks, I believe, she’s the left one:

She’s eating plenty, she’s not skinny by any means, just small. Hoping she has a long tiny chicken life either way. I’ve had FTT chicks before and they’ve always died within the first 2 weeks, but who knows.

Sounds like she will have a good life with you either way :) all you can do is try. I hope she is going to be okay!

I hope so too! I don’t believe she’s a bantam since she isn’t feathering as fast either, and to my knowledge bantams feather at the same rate, they’re just smaller.
