Those are not apparent until they're older. At this age you go off of comb and wattle size and color.

Agreed. With some exceptions (auto sexing and sexlinked) (male or female specific colors)

Length of tail feathers are not great inducators of sex. My one male in the batch of chicks currently was the fastest one to feather out.

But it is still another thing you could check. It may not work for some chicks but it is still fine to check.

I know I just wanted to see the rest of the chick's body. Also, you could look at their tail feathers. Males would have smaller tails.

They do not. I only know 1 breed that,if bred correctly, is sexable.this way but it's not australorps.

I've always sexed my chicks this way. And it usually is accurate.

This has not been accurate for me. In my opinion (not to be rude or anything), if something only works some of the time, its not really accurate. If it works 90-99 percent of the time, then its more like a pattern and a way to sex chickens. But in order for something to be accurate, the testing group has to be large enough. I have seen quite a few cases where this does not work.
