This morning I was watching my 5 week old Barred Rocks, and two of them flew at each other with their:( feet held up it front of them., and then another one jumped on another one's back. They do not seem to be doing any pecking, and the coop is sectioned off right now into an area about 8 x 6 feet, and there are six chicks. We plan to remove the temporary wall this week so they can use the whole coop instead of just half. Is this behavior something to worry about? They are "supposed" to be pullets but......mistakes in sexing them can be made!

As for the sex, post pics and we can take a look.

As for the fighting, it's just normal pecking order stuff. It starts with the fluffing of the hackle (neck) feathers, but if someone doesn't back down, then it will escalate until someone does. They are just establishing who's in charge and who's not.

My chicks were brooded over by my OEGB hen and they used to do that all the time while they were inside the house. I always thought it was just them practicing chicken behaviours in a safe place
