I got this chick from an "ameraucana" bin at the local feed store. It has a weird comb that was grey when it was little but now it's black. It's legsare also black. It's wattle is red. Is it an EE? Is it a roo?

The barring and coloring looks just like my EEs even though their comb area is a yellowish color. It is wide like theirs, too. I haven't looked or noticed any wattles yet.

I would like to keep a couple of EE roos and I can't figure if I should keep this guy because he is exotic or cull him because he is weird.

Keep him! He's very cool!

Not sure he's an EE, though...but it certainly seems very worth letting him grow up more before you make a decision.

Well she seems like shes got a beard, I'd say keep hima little longer. I do agree now that he might be a rooster. But who knows with that weird comb.

mother o' chicks72 :

if it's a roo and you don't like him, don't cull! give him away so that he at least has a CHANCE to live!

I couldnt agree more! DO NOT CULL HIM! At least give him a chance. If you don't want him post an ad on craigslist or even on here. Give the poor guy a chance.

My husband hunts deer, my dad raises cattle for beef, I just boiled a (store bought) chicken to make chicken and rice. It is my purpose to raise chickens for eggs and meat. But I have to confess the more time I sit in the yard and watch them scratch the harder it's gonna be. Hard or not, I will never be a vegetarian.
