He was pecked by another rooster one his back. Is he too young to be isolated. I am going to put neosporin on the spots, but I feel bad that he is alone. The other chicks keep pecking him though.
My 2 1/2 week old chicks pecked me today when I was petting them in their brooder. They made a small blood blister on my wrist and suddenly even the friendly ones were pecking right on that same spot. I pulled my arm out and when I put it back they went right for the blister again. It just illustrated what everyone says about the color red and the smell of blood--chicks will go crazy pecking--they can't help it. Just get your little one healed up before he goes back in with his buddies.
if you can get some blue-kote it is amazing for healing and also hides wounds because it makes it purple. very inexpensive too.
you also might try putting 1 chick in with the hurt one to keep it company, just watch closely in case it starts pecking him.
Thanks I am going to try and get some blue-kote tonight. I cant be home with him so I left him alone for now. I didnt want to take any chances. The younger babies are in there so he should hear them peeping and shouldnt feel totally alone lol. I am thinking the Brahma rooster that is a meany should be the one to come in.
