55 GALLON WATERER

Hello, I have free access to plastic 55 gallon drums and wanted to use one as a waterer. If it is air tight will a small hose down to a bowl work the same as other wateers. Just checking to see if anyone else has done something like this. my coop is to small for the drum to be inside so will have to elevate it.

Yes, lots of people use water drums to supply water to a gravity feed water system for their poultry. You can use pvc pipe or flexible tubing with marine fittings and connect it to a float valve or other type of waterers.

As eggchel mentioned.. I am one, of many, that use a 55gal water set-up. There is a good thread on ez-BYC. I can't seem to find the link though.

I use the 55 gallon drums for water, and found the auto float valves at rural king. if you have one of those near you or a good farm store should have them. i paid about 6 or 7 bucks for mine and that was about 5 years ago. they work great. but they need to be on a flexable line so you can take it off and clean the water trough.
