I once stuck a fake egg in my incubator. I didn't realize it was fake until I candled at day 7. Now I paint them bright colors so I can keep up with them.

Hahahahaha that’s hilarious!

I dropped Betty’s egg while candling her, thankfully it fell into the nest box full of shavings and bounced - poor Betty dropped on her head as a baby!

Gosh though, I had a bit of a coronary there. When I have to next candle eggs I will keep them on the ground hahaha.

Miss Broody (aka Whiskers) has another spot she has taken over, it’s an even better location when one wants to hatch eggs.

Such a nice cozy location, too cosy, I have the fans on today and tonight it’s so sultry.

I once (intentionally) put a fake egg in with a dozen I gave my elderly neighbors!. The wife couldn't crack it - so she asked hubby to try - he couldn't - so he took it out to his workshop and cut it open....then came over. and told us he though one of our chickens had a problem....there was 'a LOT of shell on her egg....it shouldn't be like that, should it?"

Then when I told him, he immediately said "Oh, that was a good one - you really got me....can I have another dozen eggs with a fake one in it? I want to give it to my son!
