Today marks my best hatch so far to date...17 eggs made it to the hatcher from this last group of Calls, of which we now have 14 ducklings into the brooder. This was my most successful hatch to date with the most ducklings, as only 3 ducklings required help of any kind, and it was minor help. Only one seems weaker than the rest, but it has its eyes open and is moving around in the brooder now. Everything looks pretty good with everyone. This really surprises me, because this was the hatch I was most leery of...I had to put the GQF I have been using out of service due to a bad thermostat, and was having problems with this Humidaire living up to its name and providing too-humid air. This is a drum style incubator and it can make for some tricky adjusting as it only has two vents and it's hard to get the heat bar on the humidity tank set just right. It took some careful and watchful coaxing of the air cells on these eggs because they were really fighting shrinking down to the correct size until about day 22, but then wow, did they shrink down...seemed like it was too fast, but apparently not! And definitely the most vigorous hatch I have had so far...I would never have guessed it! I learn something with every single hatch, and each machine has different lessons to teach too.
Crazy-busy weekend, everyone...I owe a few people some PMs and will get to those soon, I promise. Oh yeah, and pictures too!
