Hi there! I have 6-7 year old Easter Egger who just started laying again in the past few weeks. She has always been a reliable layer, although she tends to take a fall break (go figure...). In any event, she laid this today. It looks a little goopy because it cracked at the neck. I am assuming she will go back to normal eggs, and that this was a one off anatomical issue, but any reason to be concerned? She free ranges in our grass/treed yard.

thank you!

Most birds do...to molt and due to shorter days in fall and winter.
I always just find it peculiar that she starts again in January when days are shortest (we dont use supplemental light, but also live in Phoe ox so there is lots of sun)

My birds stop in Nov/Dec due to molting and shorter days. Usually by mid January several are laying again because the days get gradually longer by then.

Days begin getting longer on Dec 21-22, some detect it sooner than others.
