6-7 week old sapphire gem… hen or rooster?

Got a 7-8 week old sapphire gem. This breed is supposed to be sex linked and easy to tell at hatching. It’s started to make raptor like noises and has a a pretty big comb (I’m told this is normal for hems of this breed? Anyone have any input on whether this is a pullet or cockerel? There’s a couple pics
From when we first got her (or him!).

That's a boy. You can clearly see the head spot in the chick pics, and you can see the barring in your first picture. The person who sold it to you should have know n it was a boy.

Thanks for your response… I’m new to this and not really sure what barring is. What do I look for?

Sorry, that's definitely a boy. Saphire gem pullets comb up early, but a female's comb wouldn't be that RED until a week or two before she lays her first egg.

Barring is a white stripe, or "bar" across the width of the feather. It's very obvious on black, and often more difficult to see on other colors.

it's kinda messy, but I highlited some of the barring in red here.

The headspot that indicates barring is there on your boy in the pictures from when you got him but it is very small and easily overlooked. A chick sorter being paid minimum wage to sex 500+ newly hatched chicks could easily overlook it.

Thanks for the advice! I was holding hope that he would actually be a she because I’ve read about this breed and how easy it is to mistake a rooster for a hen. But it multiple people have said the same thing. Sucks!
