Hi there! We have 10 chickens currently, 4 are older and 6 are younger gals we let our broody Jersey Giant hatch from eggs we collected. Problem being it is now not only overcrowded, but the younger gals (2 years old) are not friendly to our family bc we didn't hatch them ourselves vs our older gals who we raised by hand. We aren't raising them for meat, and the eggs are nice, but truly, we just love creatures and their companionship. I'd love these gals to find a home with another flock so we could add only 4 more and raise them by hand again. 3 barnyard mix that look like a cross between a Buff Brahma and Americauna, 1 barred rock, 1 gold laced Wyandotte and 1 blue laced Wyandotte.

Did you have any luck rehoming them? I've found you can get friendly or mean birds by hand raising or by letting a broody hen do the work. It can go either way! My first hand-raised batch of chicks (seven total) resulted in one super friendly bird. My second batch of hand-raised birds (five) resulted in the meanest rooster I've ever had, and then hens were all flighty. My first batch of broody chicks resulted in a friendly rooster and hen, but they wouldn't let you handle them. My second batch of broody chicks resulted in two hens that won't let you handle them but are friendly, and another hen that would spend all day on your lap if you let her. I made a point to be present with broody mom and chicks as often as I could and to handle them. I feel it's been a 50/50 shot on friendliness no matter how they were raised, but I'm sure other people have had different experiences.
