Hello! I have 6 Golden Sex Links/Red Production mix chickens. They started laying at week 20, just 3 of them. Now here we are at week 25 and 4 sometimes 5 will lay a day. What could cause the other one to not lay. But to add to the mystery, someone has twice laid a really big egg, double the size of the other eggs.

These are my first chickens ever so I don't know what could be going on. They free range after 5, but are in their run most of the day. Any help or advice will help. Thank you chicken friends.

This is very normal for them to lay eggs everyday or not. Sometimes the weather has something to do with it. I dont worry about it!, sometimes they can lay a big egg, with only one yolk, I got triple yolks one time !!

It may not be the same one not laying each day. I had this happen to my 5 hens, I would get 3 or 4 eggs a day for weeks. I just assumed they were laying them every day and a half. They are now 28 weeks old and I only get 5 eggs a day about half the time. I have never had an unusually large egg, I had one double yoke. They did start out small and now are about medium size eggs. My advice, just keep taking care of them and enjoy whatever eggs you get.

It generally takes 24 to 36 hours to produce an egg, so many of them don't produce every single day. We have 6 red sl's and the pattern so far seems to be 5 eggs a day for 4 or 5 days, then a 3 egg day, a 4 egg day and then 5 again for a few days, and the cycle repeats.
