6 hens, will only use one nesting box

I read that a study was done that found that hens feel safer laying their eggs where another hen has already laid. Who does these studies anyway and how did they determine the hen's state of mind???????

well , I have no idea if this holds true or not .

I have 8 large black milk crates and i put them all in upright positions ...

Alot of times I do find more than 1 hen has laid in same nest . But , they all side by side and they are learning from each other .
I fill 1/2 full of pine savings and works very well for all my hens.

i had 5 BR's last year and they all did the same, layed in one nest box. I figured it out today though, thats the only nest box with a fake Easter Egg! So, I put golf balls in each of the other nest boxes, and already they girls layed in another nest box.

Just and idea.

I have 9 hens and they all lay in one box. I have tried everything but they don't want to lay anywhere but that one box. I give up.
