trying to keep mom and her babies warm and dry...after a month of hot days, i'm not welcoming the rain these days. it looks like mom has it covered though. any suggestions are welcomed.

I think you are worrying too much haha! The whole joy about letting the peahens raise the peachicks is you don't have to worry that much about the chicks. The peahens will take their peachicks to a covered area of the pen in the rain, or they will lay down over all of the peachicks to keep them dry.

We built very nice nesting boxes for the peahens. They don't use them. They would rather nest in a corner of the pen, under a bush, etc. That is fine with me though because it means we don't have to provide a nest box for future pens we make. The peahens are good moms and will teach the peachicks to eat bugs and stuff.

thank you both. just learning as i go. when can mom and chicks be free and unpenned? are they safe to be around the dad?

I would think they would be fine around there dad, I had 8 Royal Palm Turkey Chicks, and I put a Step Dad in with them since theres died and he will sit on them and follow them around and is very caring toward them. I am unsure if this is normal or not but I would give it a shot.
