6 month old hens, Odd behavior

My 6 month old hens are acting odd. If I walk close to them they half lay down with there wings partially open. It not just a couple but all 26 of them. Why are they doing this.?

Sounds to me like they are squatting. It's a submissive behavior done to the "rooster" to allow for mating. This means your girls are getting ready to lay, or are laying.

I usually pat their rump or shake their tails. They shake off and run about their business. haha

oh! i have one of my RIR do that, it's really the only one we can pet...if were close enough and reach out our hands she half squats with her wings half outstretched...
is this them thinking your the rooster of the flock?
