6 month old pullet with a cough

after the plumbing project is over. would it hurt to use my sterile saline and shoot up her nostrils?

just checked chicken anatomy, I didn't know where crop was, now I do
Are her nostrils clogged up? If they are, then clean them out with a soft cloth or qtip. You can use one drop of saline or peroxide to help soften any material that you see clogging up the nostril.

While birds do have Sinuses, they are not like humans, so no, I wouldn't shoot saline up her nostrils.

she ate a good breakfast and swollen crop when I took their watermelon out. looking that treatment up again, wasn't sneezing this morning, definitely kinda coughing now

her crop went down during day today. I have some coconut oil in the fridge but it is probably best used when her crop is full?
It's normal for the crop to become full when eating.

Are you checking first thing before she's had anything to eat/drink (after a full night's sleep)?

You can give coconut oil anytime but it sound like her crop may be functioning o.k., but it won't hurt to check it again.

If she's coughing, it's possible she has respiratory illness. I don't know. You can always give her a round of Tylosin to see if that helps.

I am going to try to catch her when she goes to roost tonight and give coconut oil. Her nostrils and eyes are clear, I think it is crop related, and maybe she has something in there that isn't passing. No way I could consistently catch her to dose her with much of anything

So I couldn't catch her yesterday but I had 2 teaspoons of chilled coconut oil and she had a deep interest in the cucumber peel I brought out. I put the coconut oil in a dish with the peel near where she was hiding under the edge of the shed. other hens were nearby so I am not sure who ate the coconut oil but I didn't hear her cough today, even when her crop was full.
