Can anyone tell the sex of this black orphington.Over. 6 months old.Part blind, not dominant.
Does owl hoots, when alone for few minutes, sometimes morning.I have another 3 year old hen that crows when alone as well.We have no roosters here to copy.We do have barred owls though.
I wanted to send for dna feather test, but only silkies I guess.Labs don’t have all the chicken dna to compare sexes. They mostly do birds.
The chicken in question ,whiter feet. One in front, then one in back.
They are still fairly light weight and immature,as are my lavenders of same age. They all eat lots of chick feed, just very slow growers breeder said.

What lab?

If they can sex Silkies, they should be able to sex any breed of chicken. All breeds of chickens have the same kinds of sex chromosomes.

They have to have the breeds dna on file,to compare. All the company’s said same thing. There are many.

What country are you in?

I'm in the USA, and the labs here don't seem to care what breed the chicken is, as long as "chicken" is on their species list. (Different species would be chicken, duck, parrot, peacock, bluejay, and so forth.)

People are more likely to get tests for Silkies than for other chicken breeds, but that's just because it's so hard to sex Silkies by appearance. So the labs are more likely to mention Silkie chickens, even when they can do all breeds of chickens.

Not too many years ago, they tested Sumatras for me. Those are chickens, but no Silkies.

Their species list has chickens.

Meanwhile, any orphington experts out there to give opinion of photos would be great.

It’s a pullet, close to POL which is why the comb and wattles are nice and bright. but if you want further opinions, get closer pics of the saddle areas on both(?) birds if you want opinions on both. Lots of experienced peeps here for sexing, and Orpingtons are no different than most other breeds when it comes to saddle and hackle feathers. :)
The labs should be able to sex them if they have the ability to sex any birds... birds have the same sex chromosomes no matter their species. The lab I used usually does psittacines but can test chickens and other poultry as well because they have the technology to test birds. 🤷🏼‍♀️
