Hi,

New here. I recently adopted 6 ducklings—3 Pekin and 3 khaki Campbell. They lived harmoniously for the first 5 weeks and then one of the khakis starting pecking and pulling feathers from the other ducks (making then bleed and causing a lot of stress etc). We removed him and the other duckling continue to live without issue. We moved them out to their permanent coop and fenced in area.

Now that everyone is healed and the separated Khaki has had some time alone, we have attempted to slowly reintroduce him to the rest of the ducks—but they really don’t want him back (I assume but do not know for sure that it is a male). we can keep trying but I feel badly that the separated khaki is alone and not able to roam freely as the others are.

we will continue to work on it, but if anyone knows of a place in southern VT area that may take him please let me know.

He simply may not be accepted back, especially if you have other males. If you don't then it's only a matter of time before they do accept him back.

As for places to take him, I can't say for sure.

I suspected as much—I do believe we have at least one other male (possibly 2). Though it is still hard to tell at their age. Once we know for sure we will get some more females to reach an appropriate mix—but we would like to avoid having more than 2 males regardless of the number of females.

We encountered a similiar problem when we tried to integrate a brother sister pair to our main duck flock. While they allowed them to stay, our males didn't allow the brother to get anywhere near the females willingly. We ended up feeling that it was better off rehoming them.

It really depends on the flock we had 4 new Indian Runner last year 2 we ordered female. The others we hatched. I had to rehome 4 drakes kept one which gave me 2 Runner drakes an 9 females I was biting my fingernails for what this spring would be like, amazingly it has gone great both boys look after the girls an no fighting. So you never know how flock dynamics will go. I also have a Muscovy drake and his 4 females no way I can have another Muscovy drake. Been there done that.
